When you have new construction there are any number of things that will give off odors for a short period of time, so know that it may not be the carpet; it’s hard to tell what is specifically causing the reaction if the entire house is new. The best way to eliminate new odors is to open all the windows and ventilate the entire house for approximately 48 to 72 hours. Also, know that anyone who told you that new carpeting will “off gas” for two years is entirely wrong. Absolutely any new carpet “smell” or “off gas” will dissipate within 24 to 72 hours with proper ventilation, so put your mind at rest.
